The forecasters, weather scrolls and snow emergency alerts are out in force and the guess is grocery stores will do booming business from folks stocking up on milk, eggs, canned goods and all the like this evening.

My sons want to go to a funeral. If there’s a sure sign you’re getting old, this is it. Jack, 17, and Ryan, 20, both asked about attending Monday’s service for trainer Tom Voss, who died this week.

We’re not related to Voss. We didn’t grow up in his neighborhood. But, like plenty of people in those categories and beyond, we’re impacted by his death. Deeply.

The combination of catching the end of a report NPR‘s Midday Magazine about how the Internet has affected nearly every facet of American business, including the world of journalism, and some research about what it was like in Saratoga in August 1973 leads me to the following statement:
