Saturday Special – January 2

We said goodbye to a memorable 2015 Thursday night, hello to 2016 Friday and get back to serious business Saturday with racing coast to coast.

TIHR’s 15 for 2015: No. 1

A year removed from the most read story at This Is Horse Racing that was directly related to the passing of a legend, the most read TIHR story of 2015 is again about the life and career of one of the biggest legends the racing game has ever known.

Thoroughbred racing intersects often with other sports from around the world. Football players, soccer stars, college basketball coaches, and baseball managers dabble in the best game played outdoors.

TIHR’s 15 for 2015: No. 3

Sean Clancy’s March 2 blog entry, “Quiet at the Jerkens barn,” was the third most read piece on this website in 2015 and it put into words exactly how it feels to step into a familiar place and something to feel completely out of place all at the same time.

TIHR’s 15 for 2015: No. 5

The early portions of the Triple Crown trail are filled with ups and downs, tests and obstacles, rewards and validations. Ralph Evans experienced plenty of those emotions and even more during the early part of the year with his Upstart, who won the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes in January.

TIHR’s 15 for 15: No. 6

We’ve written a lot about Wise Dan through the years. The early days, when he transitioned from stakes winner on dirt to monster on the grass. His first Horse of the Year campaign, then his second Horse of the Year campaign. Setbacks and comebacks. Who could ever forget that day at Saratoga, closing weekend when he won the Bernard Baruch just a few months removed from colic surgery?

TIHR’s 15 for 2015: No. 7

An enthusiastic crowd turned out at Charles Town Races this spring to see the world’s top-ranked racehorse take the next steps on a possible Horse of the Year campaign in a $1.5 million race.

TIHR’s 15 for 2015: No. 8

Uniform medication rules and regulations were in the news again in 2015 and a story of one trainer’s fight against a positive he felt was incorrect was the eighth most read piece of the year at This Is Horse Racing.
