Jamie Osborne has brought Toast Of New York to Belmont Park for Saturday’s Belmont Derby Invitational. Winner of the UAE Derby in March, the 3-year-old son of Thewayyouare returns to the turf for the first time since his debut last August. Since finishing fifth that day, he’s won three of four over synthetic surfaces, including the $2 million stakes at Meydan.
Osborne used to ride jumpers in England. Stylish and accurate, he was one of the best. In the early 90s, he came to Saratoga on a few working vacations, winning an allowance race on Simonov for Gerald Oxley and High Hedges Farm. Whoa, there’s a blast from the past. Now a flat trainer (with an occasional jumper), Osborne has returned to New York with the aptly named Toast Of New York. Cheers to the adventure. Good luck.
For more, read his diary at the Racing Post. He makes an interesting point about Lasix, an honest point about using the medication.
