Welcome to March. Well, at least welcome to the almost first week of March.
The final Saturday of February, almost time for some March Madness but first another major Kentucky Derby prep on one of Oaklawn Park’s biggest days of the year.
President’s Day. Quick, who’s your favorite president? No, no, no, not any of the recent ones, think back, the ones you wanted to learn about, read about, hear what they said.
Thirty-six starts. Fourteen wins. Four seconds. Seven thirds. Closing in on $1 million in earnings. Five wins as a 4-year-old. Zero wins as a 5-year-old. Four wins as a 6-year-old. First graded stakes win at age 7.
A little late (Tom went ice fishing) but here we go. The Saturday Special for February 19. Fair Grounds is the key card and The Saratoga Special handicappers have given you all the winners. Enjoy.
Well, that was a week. From the Eclipse Awards to necropsy reports of the ill-fated Kentucky Derby “winner,” there certainly was plenty to talk, whine and opine about. What better way to transition out of that phase than into some actual racing.
The envelope please. Seemingly never in the 51-year history of the Eclipse Awards – certainly not in recent memory – has that statement ever produced so little suspense as to what would come next.
How’d your weekend treat you? How about Monday? Yeah, we know the drill.
Another week, another major winter weather event. Perhaps it’s way past overdue to say, “this just in, it’s winter,” but here we are in the days of mad dashes to the grocery store and constant meteorologist updates.
Now that was a weekend. Two thrilling conference title games in the NFL – Who Dey, go Bengals – and scores of top performances on the track. We’ll try and forget the US men’s soccer team’s 2-0 defeat in Canada.
