Trying to make sense of life and death

There, but for the grace of God go I . . . Jorge Torres died this week of injuries suffered in a fall at Camden in November. It sounded dire when it happened – head injury, coma, life support – and wound up dire in the end. We heard he had died the night after the race, then we heard good news a month or so ago and hoped for a miracle. Miracles are hard to come by.

Animal Kingdom gets to Fair Hill, eyes Wednesday jog

Tuesday, May 10

Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom arrived at Fair Hill Tuesday evening, in time for dinner and a look at some 30 onlookers. The chestnut 3-year-old was bedded down in the Team Valor barn at Fair Hill (which used to be Mike McCarthy’s barn which used to be Mike Goswell’s barn). The son of Leroidesanimaux will get his first look at the Fair Hill Training Center tracks Wednesday morning for a light jog.

Animal Kingdom gets closer to Fair Hill

UPDATE: Leaving Hagerstown (the final water stop) at 2:55 p.m. Next stop Fair Hill.

Straight from the cab of the truck (looks like a clear highway ahead), Animal Kingdom reached the state line at 12:40 p.m. and is now in Maryland.
