The first North American Grade 1 was contested of the year on an otherwise light weekend of stakes action and the Southern California fixture was dominated by daughters of champion and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.

Today’s to do list: Things to think about after coming in from round 2 of shoveling this morning in Saratoga Springs. You’ve got to think positive on a day like today, when you can’t feel your fingers and the only thought through your head is “Moving back to Saratoga was a good idea because …”

Evans enjoys the ride with his ‘fluke’

Ralph Evans counted himself lucky to get back to New England earlier this week after a short trip to South Florida over the weekend. Only a man riding the high from a win of a promising 3-year-old winning his seasonal debut can make such a statement, especially considering the trade was sunshine, ocean breezes and temperatures in the 70s for snow, huge wind gusts and temps below freezing.
