Since the holidays are all about tradition we decided to make a tradition out of our annual look-back series and proudly present the 15 for 2015 list for This Is Horse Racing.
The list is made up of the 15 most popular stories from 2015, so consider it your list since it’s all based on traffic numbers. Hopefully they’re reliable – we occasionally have our doubts about all this analytics stuff – but looking at the list it appears all the major themes from 2015 are covered.
We again didn’t include any articles from The Saratoga Special and pared the list down slightly to avoid any duplication of similar topics and storylines. The plan is to roll out one story a day until the end of the year, so settle in and relive the year that was. Bear in mind we’re not big on lists, so you won’t be seeing a standard rundown of the best races of 2015, the best horses, the best this and the best that.
American Pharoah dominated the headlines nearly the entire year, from his season-opening victory in Oaklawn Park’s Rebel Stakes to his perceived snub by Sports Illustrated earlier this week. In between he of course won the Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The first story in our series looks back at the highlight of American Pharoah’s campaign and of the 2015 season. Titled “Savoring the moment at the Triple Crown,” Joe Clancy’s blog was published June 9 and perfectly and succinctly summed up what it was like to be at Belmont Park for the crowning moment.
