Family Matters – Lake George Stakes Recap

Sue Lorimer, assistant trainer to Woodbine-based Roger Attfield, walked out of the winner’s circle after Perfect Shirl won the Grade II Lake George Wednesday and was greeted by a sole reporter.

Cup of Coffee: Jump Racing

There used to be National Steeplechase Day at Saratoga. Schooling at Oklahoma, fans lined up to watch. Two races, usually including the Lovely Night Handicap, made up the afternoon festivities. The steeplechase crowd mingled with the flat crowd. It was a special day, a day to celebrate THOROUGHBREDS racing over jumps and THOROUGHBREDS racing on the flat.

Obituary: Trainer, veterinarian Dr. William Wright

Dr. Wright (Bud), 95 of Chesapeake City, Md. passed away peacefully at home on July 10. He was a longtime Mid-Atlantic area equine veterinarian, trainer and owner. As a veterinarian, he developed and perfected several formulas of leg paint (202, 303, etc) and other treatments. As a trainer, he produced numerous standouts including the hard-hitting race mare T.V. Highlights, and was a force in point-to-point and NSA flat races with his Labadie Mill Farm runners (many of whom raced without shoes).

Steeplechase Times wins 2009 editorial contest

Steeplechase Times, ST Publishing’s original project launched in 1994, won its third consecutive General Excellence Award in American Horse Publications’ annual editorial contest for the publishing year 2009.
