It was clear Stormy’s Majesty had held on in the $100,000 New York-bred stakes, right? Traffic lights were out. Barn lights were out. Grandstand lights were out. Pools of water, some a foot deep, emerged in minutes. Security locked some people out of the track and others inside the track. All the while, six trainers agonized over a decision Sunday morning.By Sean Clancy
Jerry Hollendorfer walked out of Saratoga Race Course and took a good long look around. Music played from Siro’s, fans funneled out and one veteran horse trainer exhaled.My friend George Baker finally made the trip to Saratoga, after I’ve been touting, begging, imploring him since we met on the gallops in England so many years ago. We hit it off immediately and the Bakers have become my drop zone when I go to England.

The Orsini Electric guy just said ‘but you have partial power, don’t you?’ Well, no. The lights are on in the hallway. The outlets in my office work – sort of. But everything else is dead. The place is dark and quiet – no lights and no electronic hum from the computers, the monitors, the air conditioner, the printer, the water cooler/heater. No random announcer’s voice calling races on the television. Even the Cupcake Lab closed down – no hot water to make the coffee.
Rick Violette went old school, but probably had to – given the circumstances.
