The Monday Special – Jan. 10

Winter – already well underway officially – arrived in earnest over the last week with everything from major snowstorms to wind to biting cold over much of the eastern part of the country. We’re already thinking of warmer days ahead, knowing full well this is just the first of probably several blasts.

The Saturday Special – Jan. 8

Two-for-two. Our second Saturday Special for 2022. As the editors (Saratoga, Fair Hill, Middleburg) wrestle with the recent snow, racing goes ahead around the world. Enjoy.

Challenge Complete

Early in the final full week of August, before the Travers and with light at the end of the tunnel that was the 2021 Saratoga meeting, my mileage meter clicked from the 400s to more than 500.

Almost there

“You’re really putting in the miles,” my friend Megan said about a month ago. “You’re probably going to catch me.”

Final strides

The 2021 winter solstice came and went Tuesday, along with another 6 miles hopefully on the way to 1,000 for the year.

The Saturday Special – Dec. 4

How could we resist a Saturday like this? With action from coast to coast, north to south, Grade 1s to starter “stakes” for the backbone of the industry, the first Saturday in December packs a punch.

The Saturday Special – Nov. 13

The 38th Breeders’ Cup in the books, it’s time to start the final stretch before the holidays and turning the calendar over for another year.

Here & There – Breeders’ Cup 2021

The races are complete and most of the competitors are back home, off to the breeding shed or the farm and looking to the future. Before we look ahead we’ll sneak a peek back at last weekend’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Del Mar.
