Memorial Day weekend is in the books and that can mean one thing and one thing only, the serious countdown to California Chrome’s quest to sweep the Triple Crown at the 146th running of the Belmont Stakes is afoot.

The skies opened up with authority in the Baltimore area Friday, significantly changing the racetrack and the complexion of the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Day program that was to include six turf races.
Popular Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome was pegged as the heavy favorite as expected for Saturday’s Preakness Stakes during Wednesday night’s post-position draw at Pimlico Race Course and will face nine others in the second jewel of the Triple Crown.
