Last week saw the end of the yearling sales season in North America and the release of the 2014 Jockey Club Report of Mares Bred. Let’s take a look at some figures and trends from the Jockey Club data followed by some insights on 2014 yearling averages.

The last race was simply too bad to be true. The racetrack wasn’t to her liking. She’s reached that point in the year, and maybe her career, when she’s had enough with the whole racetrack thing.

Breeders’ Cup fields set

Commence the serious handicapping. The fields for the 31st Breeders’ Cup World Championships were set Monday afternoon at Santa Anita Park and the 13 races present plenty of challenges for horseplayers and horsemen alike.

Monday Morning Trainer: Draw Day

The wait is over. Well, almost over, since only the fields for the 13 Breeders’ Cup World Championship races will be drawn Monday afternoon and evening. The races will be long in the books in a week’s time, results left to dissect, scrutinize, analyze and reflect upon.

Despite the absence of several marquee names that include two notable defending champs – or perhaps because of those very defections – pre-entries for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships were as strong as ever for North American racing’s signature event next week at Santa Anita Park.
