Beach Boys: Jumpers head to Monmouth Park for two

Friday afternoon in June, head to the beach. Steeplechase racing follows the tourists this week with a return to the Jersey Shore for the first time since 2010. Two hurdle races will be part of a 10-race lineup at Monmouth Park with a first post of 12:50 p.m. The jumpers go 2 1/4 miles in the first and the third, maiden and optional-claiming races respectively.

Legendary jockey Aitcheson dies at 85

It seems somehow fitting that Joe Aitcheson, the steeplechase jockey’s steeplechase jockey, died on a day of racing. Aitcheson, 85, passed away Saturday at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster, Md., while jump races played on at Fair Hill.
