Real Rider Cup rides on for good cause

On a weekend that offers plenty of Thoroughbred racing and related action in the Philadelphia area, The Real Rider Cup returns on the final day of competition at The Plantation Field International Horse Trials in Unionville, Pa. Sunday, Sept. 23.

Jumpers start autumn season at Belmont Park

Hurdle horses return to Belmont Park Thursday for the traditional two-race setup to launch the autumn season (even though it’s technically still summer). Novices go in the Bill Entenmann Memorial while Grade 1 stakes horses clash in the Lonesome Glory. Both groups are aiming for even more valuable races at Far Hills Oct. 20. The jumpers are the first and second races on the card, with post time at 1 p.m.

Walsh gets back in the saddle

Robbie Walsh has never been accustomed to laying low. His is the typical DNA of a steeplechase jockey –full speed ahead. But for the better part of the past year, the 42-year-old Irishman has been recovering from surgeries and rehabbing his knee and shoulder after a fall from Janet Elliot’s Alajmal at last year’s Fair Hill Races.
