A week out from the Kentucky Derby and a surprisingly strong slate of action across America to bring April to a close.
Pimlico Race Course, which will see the Preakness in three weeks’ time, hosts the Spring Stakes Spectacular card after it was moved from Laurel Park and there’s an automatic bid on the line to Maryland’s signature race in the $125,000 Federico Tesio Stakes. Churchill Downs, which we know will be hopping all week leading up to the Derby, opens its spring-summer stand with an evening card featuring a competitive turf sprint stakes.
We welcomed back Belmont Park Friday and a very strong card on Long Island awaits while fans do the same on guidance from the governor when they can return to the races.
The day starts overseas with flat and jump racing from Limerick, Sandown and Leicester.

How’s this for a form line for the even-money favorite – fourth in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup, fifth in the $20 million Saudi Cup and 10th in the Dubai World Cup. Now he runs for $75,000. Like we overheard someone say at Keeneland Friday, “it’s where he can win.”
