Writers Write

Sidetracked with other writing gigs, mostly features on finalists for the New York Thoroughbred Breeders awards program, which leaves me spent when it comes to this page. As famed sportswriter Dave Kindred said the other day on 60 Minutes when asked why he was writing about a girl’s high school basketball team, well past retirement, well past the point of approval, he said, “Writers write.”

I’m trying to write, Dave, I’m trying to write.

Written nearly 2,500 words today, some of them were OK.

Way behind on the iRun Local 1,000 Mile Challenge, somewhere near 175 and the 52-Book Challenge, stalled at eight.

Big win from Sosua at Tampa Bay Downs. We purchased the daughter of Speightstown as a yearling, she drew off and won by 12 3/4 lengths in her debut today.

Four runners this weekend. Three at Old Dominion Point-to-Point and one at Elkridge-Harford. Time for the jumpers to get going.
