Planes, trains and horses

Home. Finally. Middleburg, Washington Dulles, London Heathrow, Newmarket, Chepstow, Newmarket, London Heathrow, LAX, Pasadena, Santa Anita, Pasadena, Santa Anita, Lax, New Jersey, Manassas, Middleburg. Home. Four planes. Five taxis. Two hotels. A lot of horses. Whew, a lot of horses.

Starting with Valdez’s fall at Chepstow, then a catalog of 1,500 or so at Tattersalls, then the Breeders’ Cup. Bought two to come home from Newmarket – Hooded and Natural Order. One, a potential jumper by Empire Maker, the other a 2-year-old by Munnings. Tried many others. Frustrating. The knife at a gun fight. Watched the best compete at Santa Anita. Bet $100 to win on Toast Of New York, making my view of the stewards’ decision somewhat jaded – I’ve been dismissed from the jury.
