Steeplechase/Eventing Times won the General Excellence Award for 2007 at the American Horse Publications awards banquet Saturday, June 28 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
ST Publishing's newspaper Steeplechase/Eventing Timeswon the coveted General Excellence Award from American Horse Publications Saturday – topping the tabloid/newspaper division and earning high praise from contest judges, whose comments included:
"Brilliant writing and editing, superb leads on every page, from the cover story to the obits. Witty, pithy and sophisticated – goes way beyond "who won what where." Design, text, covers, photography, paper stock all support the editorial mission. Offers an intimate, insider's view of the world it covers that's unmatched in its division, perhaps in the industry."
Founded in 1994, Steeplechase/Eventing Times covers the equine sports of steeplechase racing and three-day eventing. This is the third General Excellence Award for the newspaper. National news magazine Thoroughbred Times received an honorable mention in the division. Other General Excellence winners were Eventing USA, America's Horse, The Florida Horse, Horse Connection, Today's Pro Farrier and Western Horseman. The latter took home the overall publication title.
In addition, ST editor/publisher Joe Clancy received two second-place nods: one for a feature article about the retirement of McDynamo which appeared in Steeplechase/Eventing Times last December; and one for a personality profile on journalist Peter Winants which appeared in Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred last November.
