Week 7 rolls on – and inches closer to Travers Day – with a 10-race card Thursday topped by the Grade 2 Ballston Spa Stakes for fillies and mares on the grass.

The $300,000 Ballston Spa looks like another showcase for trainer Chad Brown’s deep base of distaff grass runners, with Technical Analysis, Consumer Spending, Fluffy Socks and Speak Of The Devil entered in the field of nine. They’ll take on European import Jumbly, Surprisingly and others in the 1 1/16-mile event that goes as the ninth race at 5:44 p.m.

Charles Bedard surrendered his almost meet-long lead atop the handicapping race, to John Shapazian, late last week but took a share of it back Wednesday. Shapazian, the almost annual leader among all Saratoga handicappers and for many years in The Power Grid, and Bedard are tied at 94 wins apiece heading into Day 31.

The handicappers picks are presented by Toga Party Racing and they’ll appear online Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays through the rest of the meet. The Power Grid returns in the print and digital editions of The Saratoga Special Wednesdays and Saturdays.
