Halfway. The 2023 Saratoga Race Course meeting hit the midpoint Wednesday and crosses into the second half Thursday with a 10-race card without a stakes.
The $125,000 John Morrissey Handicap was slated for Thursday’s card but didn’t draw sufficient entries. That leaves a card of the usual – maidens, allowances and claimers – on the dirt and possibly on the turf. All the races were moved off the grass Wednesday.
The picks from The Saratoga Special handicappers appear online Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from here on through the remainder of the meet, along with Labor Day, Monday, September 4. The picks appear in the print editions Wednesdays and Saturdays, as always presented by Toga Party Racing.
