- -

Memorial Day weekend rolls on and a 10-race card at Belmont Park awaits The Saratoga Special’s leading handicapper John Shapazian.

Check out who John likes right here, and be sure to check back for his selections Sunday and Monday here at thisishorseracing.com. Be safe and good luck.

Race 1
THE CROCHERON KID drops in for a tag, attracts Jose Ortiz, has run well on turf and dirt.  LONE TRADER is second off the bench should improve.  CANARSIE KID will be part of the early pace.  4-3-2

Race 2
REFINANCE comes off a years sabbatical, could prove tough to beat facing younger rivals.  HIGH FREQUENCY moves to the Jason Servis barn, may show an improved effort.  TANZANITE ships in from Oaklawn Park, the one to catch.  7-6-8

Race 3
In a competitive event where you can make a case for many, RUSSIAN GREEK’S recent form has been dull, but has some back races that give him an edge.  MOTOWN SOUND was unlucky in last.  CASTAWAY comes off the claim, would be no surprise.  5-3-2

Race 4
STORMIN MONARCHO maybe the one to catch from the rail, has run well in the off going, must avoid a speed duel with SHUFFLE UP who seeks 3 in a row.  ADULATOR adds blinkers and draws Javier Castellano.  1-5-4

Race 5
If moved to the main track, DUQUESNE WHISTLE becomes the one to beat after a stumble in last.  On turf, SHIRAZ has the edge, blinkers return.  MANIFEST DESTINY has lots of upside potential, Joel Rosario in the irons.  HEAVY METAL returns after a seven-month hiatus, has run well on turf and dirt.  11-6-5-1

Race 6
MAJESTIC LASSIE goes turf to dirt for Gary Contessa, drops seven pounds, timid vote.  PARTY MINT STAR takes on winners after maiden score.  MY EKATI CAT wheels back in five days, may go well.  6-3-9

Race 7
HOME AGAIN, the daughter of Speightstown, may come out running if moved to the main oval.  On the lawn, RUBILINDA, by Frankel, debuts for Chad Brown, shows some steady works.  GAME FACTOR and BATTLE JOINED figure close.  3-10-4-7

Race 8
BIG HANDSOME seeks third straight victory for Tony Dutrow.  MONGO NATION drilled sharply on May 20, as did DEREK’S smile on May 17.  8-7-1

Race 9
ELOQUENT RIDDLE rates a narrow margin, Juddmonte filly ships in from South Florida.  DOWNTOWN MAMA won her debut in the mud at Laurel Park, should go well.  SHEPLAYSTHEFIELD broke her maiden at Keeneland, the Sky Mesa filly could be right there.  3-1-5

Race 10
DAB must draw in form the AE list but his return race May 3 was encouraging.  IDES OF ARCH also looked sharp in his return for Leah Gyarmati.  ELENZEE disappointed at odds on in last.  13-10-2
