The second Sunday in May means it’s Mother’s Day around the country and there’s an eight-race card at Belmont Park to keep everyone occupied after celebrating with Mom at brunch.
The Saratoga Special’s John Shapazian scoped out the card and offers his picks right here. Take a look and good luck.
Race 1
Z ROYAL drops again after the Jason Servis claim, disappointed with front bandages in last. SPOTTY ZEALOUS takes blinkers off, hard to read. HARD HITTER last two efforts were not very inspiring but may be good enough in this field. 2-3-6
Race 2
FINAL FLURRY adds blinkers, which might prove a plus if the race is moved to the main track and has some pedigree for the off going, as does SKYLINE DRIVE who drops for a tag. VIA FRATTINA showed some ability in last. 1-6-5
Race 3
UNDERCOVER AGENT goes turf to dirt, drops again, maybe the best of a weak field. ROSSIE VAL drilled sharply April 24, drops six pounds. FULLBACK FOYE returns to state breds. 6-3-8
Race 4
FRANCESCO FLIER may flash speed from the rail attracts Jose Ortiz. MR. GREY comes off an eight-month hiatus, goes as a first time gelding. UNION RICHES faces winners after Tampa Bay maiden score. 1-7-6
Race 5
TIZ A KITTEN draws the rail, may also go well on dirt. ADDICTIVE attracts Javier Castellano, has wet track breeding. BAREEGA would be no surprise. 1-9-5
Race 6
ABOUNDING SPIRIT has run well in the slop, 3-for-7; the one to beat. CHAMPAGNE RUBY goes for Danny Gargan, will be stalking the early leaders. KRISTA’S PERSONA returns to claiming ranks. 4-6-3
Race 7
If moved to the main track, PAWLEYS EXPRESS looks for three in a row. On turf, INSTA ERMA ran well at Keeneland. DREAM PROSPECT had an improved effort in South Florida. PERU may get a minor award. 3-8-1-2
Race 8
NORTHERN SCREAMER can boss these on the main oval. On the lawn, NOUVELLE VAGUE comes off a Linda Rice claim, dangerous. WONDERFUL SAVVY ran well in last. BRIGHT SIDE UP comes off the bench. 15-4-6-3
