Not a cheap seat

One of the rare remaining original stadium seats from Saratoga Race course is currently up for auction through the sports and Americana memorabilia website Lelands.com.

The cast iron, wooden and unrestored seat has already attracted plenty of interest with 19 bids and a price closing in on $2,000 through Thursday morning. Bidding on the seat closes at 9 p.m. ET Friday.

The seat is the long Saratoga piece in this year’s Lelands catalog and the company’s founder and chairman, John Evans, considers it to be “as beautiful a sports venue seat that you’ll ever see. It has great detail and takes you back in time.”

Leland said the was part of a display at the now defunct Harry M. Stevens Museum. Harry M. Stevens was a leading ballpark, stadium and racetrack concessionaire and was considered one of the great sports commercialism pioneers of the early 20th century.
