Latest Features

We rolled out a new feature in 2016 and it proved plenty popular with readers. Born from conversations with each other and during the annual ST Publishing “Summit” in January, the feature wanted to get into the minds of the game’s players to find out who the one horse was that made all the difference. And thus, the Horse Who Changed Everything was born.

The name is simple enough and the concept is even easier. We ask, they tell. The goal was to roll one out every week and we came fairly close, just don’t do a tally.

Todd Pletcher, who again led off the Fasig-Tipton Stable Tour as the defending champion trainer at Saratoga, took a few minutes two days before the 2016 Spa meet opened to fill us in on his Horse Who Changed Everything.

Turns out his horse is actually horses – More Than Ready and Jersey Girl.

“They’re the two that got us going at a level, competing at the highest level, in Grade 1 races,” Pletcher said, leaning back in his chair and pointing to winner’s circle photos of both in his Saratoga office on the Oklahoma Training Track.

Giving us two was slightly off premise, but considering Pletcher’s won more Eclipse Awards than we could ever dream about we let him roll.

Published after the meet in late Sesptember, Pletcher’s Horse Who Changed Everything presented by Embrace The Race checks in at No. 8 on the Top 10 for 2016.
