The Inside Rail

Some day, perhaps, I'll learn to write here every day. Just hasn't happened yet. I look back and it's been a week, whoops, the last time I was writing it was about horses running. Now, I'm back a week later, the horses have run, have started back under tack and we are looking at our next moves.

Biedermeier ran huge to be third, beaten a nose and a head in a lucrative allowance at Parx. He lagged in last like he likes, then circled wide around the far turn, the winner Best Bard tipping out at a crucial stage, forcing us out another lane. I like watching tactical riders ride, Paco Lopez on Biedermeier tried to pin Eurico Rosa Da Silva on Best Bard right about the same time that Da Silva wanted to fan Lopez out. The thoughts instantaneously thought by two jockeys going fast in a clump of horses, Da Silva, with position, won the match. Good effort. As an owner, it's rewarding to see your horse simply run well, it's frustrating to wait weeks to run back, but that's life as an owner.

Tricky Hat ran well over hurdles at Shawan, finishing fourth in his first start since being brought down at Parx. The graded stakes winner jumped well, traveled well and finished evenly. He seems to like jumping. Onward.

The Grange returned for her first race since finishing second in the filly and mare stakes at the Iroquois back in May. She rated, crept, then flattened out to wind up sixth in an oddly-run ratings hurdle. Onward, too.

Yellow Mountain returned for a flat spin at Foxfield, finishing fourth in his first race since being nosed out in a maiden hurdle at Parx last summer. Decent effort. And, yes, onward, too.

Quiet this weekend, no jump racing and nothing to run on the flat. I guess that's OK as there's plenty of action around the world -  Chantilly, Newmarket, Ascot, Santa Anita, Belmont Park, Gulfstream Park, California Chrome, Beholder, Flintshire, American Cleopatra, A. P. Indian, Wonder Gal...

We put together a Saturday Special every Saturday, which provides a cheat sheet of races to watch, in order. That's one cheat sheet. Here's mine, with a few notes, not exactly the same.

Maybe, I'm watching too much racing…

Of course, the live feed for European racing just switched from the first at Newmarket to the screen shot of the mud-splattered horse in purple blinkers, with the announcement, “Live Video is not currently available for this racetrack.”

Guess, it's time to make breakfast.
