Carl Nafzger doesn't argue with the description by some that he's semi-retired. He comes to Saratoga every year around the time of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, kicks around with his friend and former longtime assistant Ian Wilkes and catches up with other old friends and colleagues.

Yes, Nafzger and his wife Wanda take in the sights in and around Saratoga, but when the Hall of Fame trainer hit town last week it was for a reason and not just the season.

Tiz Windy is the reason and she takes on heavyweights Untapable and Stopchargingmaria in today's $300,000 Shuvee Handicap at Saratoga Race Course.

"Now you know why I'm here," Nafzger said before doing what put him in the Hall of Fame and getting in the stall with the Tiznow filly.

Nafzger said he hoped to show up a little earlier Saturday morning to tend to one of the two horses he still officially trains. He still made it with plenty of time to slip into the stall with Tiz Windy and work out some kinks in the filly's back. This is Nafzger, 73, at his best and the combination of his touch and finding just the right pressure points did the trick as Tiz Windy dropped her head, relaxed and was the picture of comfort after the five-minute chiropractic and acupressure session was complete.
