Who says all the stars are jammed into the Saturday cards, never to be seen during the week at Saratoga Race Course due to a reconfigured stakes schedule?
Consider Wednesday's $200,000 Honorable Miss Handicap.
The 6-furlong sprint drew only five entries, undoubtedly because of the presence of two older mares with collective earnings of nearly $2.8 million. They've won 14 stakes - eight of them graded and two of them Grade 1. One's an Eclipse Award winner, the other on her way to a New York-bred championship and maybe more.
Did we mention it's Wednesday?
Midweek attendees and gamblers and fans watching offsite get a treat for the Grade 2 Honorable Miss, headlined by Judy The Beauty and La Verdad. They'll start the Grade 2 stakes side-by-side and are even-money and 8-5 on the morning line. The three others - Enchantress, Ultimate Shopper and Street Story - will need powerful swings to fell those tall trees.
"It's exciting, very exciting," Wesley Ward, who trains and owns Judy The Beauty, said of the Honorable Miss.
