Joe Clancy's column "My sons want to go to a funeral," the most heavily read piece at thisishorseracing.com in 2014, was honored as one of last year's best pieces of equine journalism by the American Horse Publications at the organization's annual awards banquet Saturday in San Antonio, Texas.

The column, which came shortly after the death of top steeplechase trainer Tom Voss, earned first-place honors in the personal single column, circulation AUV under 10,000 category.

Sean Clancy earned second-place honors in the same category for his piece titled "The Hero," which appeared in the July 2014 issue of Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred, about the loss of consummate steeplechase jockey and lifelong Marylander Joe Aitcheson.

Two other pieces by Joe Clancy that appeared in Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred were among those honored during the AHP event.

He earned a third place in the personality profile single article, circulation/AUV under 10,000 category for his piece "More Than Machines" that appeared in the March 2014 issue and an honorable mention in the feature single article, circulation/AUV under 10,000 category for "One In A Million" that appeared in the October 2014 issue.
