So, where were we?

An abbreviated fall schedule gets underway with seven races at Foxfield Sunday. As for the ST Handicappers, it’s been a while, although Joe was strong at Pimlico Saturday (five winners) and Tom hammered out winners at Saratoga to wind up being the second best public handicapper (second to The Special’s John Shapazian). Perhaps, we should test Shapazian’s mettle and magic at Foxfield.

Looking way back to June, the standings go like this. Sean leads with six. Tom rallied with four wins at Virginia Gold Cup to pull into second with five on the year. Joe trails with four.

Post time is at 12:30. Go to www.nationalsteeplechase.com to watch live.

Here we go.

Race 1. Maiden Claiming Hurdle. $10,000. 2 1/8 miles.

The age-old question of maiden claimers. Do you go with proven form, if there is such a thing as proven form in a maiden claimer or the newcomer? Good And Proper makes his seventh start while Lap Of The Gods and others make their debuts in the opener.

  • Sean: He’ll Do, Mr. Haire, Lap Of The Gods.
  • Tom: Yankee Doodle Boy, Lap Of The Gods, Good And Proper.
  • Joe: Animal Kingston, Pappy On The Rocks, Mr. Sarinana.

Race 2. Filly and Mare Maiden Hurdle. $15,000. 2 1/8 miles.

High Sierra has had two chances. Today could be the day.

  • Sean: High Sierra, Flammetta, Choklitcoverdonut.
  • Tom: High Sierra, Lovely Sunset, Flammetta.
  • Joe: Flammetta, High Sierra, Just A Whim.

Race 3. Handicap Hurdle. $15,000. 2 1/8 miles.

Saratoga to Foxfield. Sean and Joe like the move with ZZZ. She spots experience but has talent.

  • Sean: Zoom Zoom Zoe, Inverness, Junonia.
  • Tom: Inverness, Zoom Zoom Zoe, Mavourneen.
  • Joe: Zoom Zoom Zoe, Junonia, Brooklyn Speights.

Race 4. Maiden Claiming Hurdle. $10,000. 2 1/8 miles.

Another maiden claimer and another question. Proven form of Gold Shield, who once ran a 100 Beyer, or potential of Penitence?

  • Sean: Penitence, Decisive Triumph, Bold Escape.
  • Tom: Penitence, Eleven It Is, Gold Shield.
  • Joe: Gold Shield, Eleven It Is, Penitence.

Race 5. Claiming Hurdle. Apprentice Jockeys. $5,000. 2 1/8 miles.

Great opportunity for the apprentice jockeys on proven horses.

  • Sean: Cracker Factory, Elucidation, Ebullience.
  • Tom: Cracker Factory, Elucidation, Skydiving.
  • Joe: Elucidation, Cracker Factory, Detroit Blues.

Race 6. Training Flat. Apprentice jockeys. 1 1/4 miles.

Preps for bigger and better things for the horses and primers for the jockeys.

  • Sean: Big Bend, Family Tree, Broken Force.
  • Tom: Family Tree, Broken Force, Big Bend.
  • Joe: Family Tree, Big Bend, Eagle Fifty.

Race 7. Training Flat. Virginia-bred or Certified. 1 1/4 miles.

We have a consensus here. Arch Kingsley looks loaded with Tolaga Bay, switching from the flat track to the hunt meet.

  • Sean: Tolaga Bay, Vincent Van Gogo, Arkadag.
  • Tom: Tolaga Bay, Vincent Van Gogo, Arkadag.
  • Joe: Tolaga Bay, Vincent Van Gogo, Arkadag.
