How about this for a Closing Day card? Monday’s 14-race extravaganza at Saratoga Race Course closes the 2020 Covid-19 meeting and features a little bit of everything.

The rescheduled steeplechase handicap from last week starts things off and by the time the show ends for the year there will be races for 2-year-olds, dirt routes, turf spints, stakes and claimers. If you want variety Monday is your day.

The Grade 1 Hopeful headlines the card and goes as the 13th race at 5:50 p.m. A field of seven entered, led by 7-5 favorite and Grade 2 Saratoga Special winner Jackie’s Warrior. The 2-year-old son of Maclean’s Music brings a 2-for-2 mark into the 7-furlong stakes and looks to give Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen back-to-back winners in the race after he swept the top three spots last year with Basin, Shoplifted and Gozilla.

The $85,000 Lure, a restricted stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the grass, features a field of six led by Breaking The Rules, Largent and Devamani.

Iranistan highlights the final jump race of the season. The highweight at 158, the 6-year-old knows one way and that’s all the way. He wired eight rivals, including five he faces again, three weeks ago for trainer Jonathan Sheppard, jockey Darren Nagle and owner Hudson River Farm. The $50,000 opener at 2 3/8 miles was carded for last Wednesday but scrapped because of rain and a soft course.

The handicapper’s race is all but officially over, with John Shapazian again at the top of the standings. He picked 132 winners at last year’s meet, from 404 races, and figures to top that mark with 14 opportunities Monday. John’s record heading into Day 40 stands at 130-for-396, a 32.8-percent strike rate.

Tom Law already passed his 2019 total and brings a record to 118-for-396 (29.8 percent) to the final day of racing. Tom picked 109 winners last year.

Charles Bedard also improved from a year ago, when he tabbed 93 winners. He sits at 106-for-396 (26.8 percent). Rob Whitlock also sports a better record in 2020 than his first season 2019. Rob sits at 91 winners, up 11 from a year ago with 14 more chances Monday.
