Whew, exhale. Just don’t relax too much. Fresh off the heels of a memorable Whitney Day marked with upsets, a disqualification and record handle, the 2020 Saratoga Race Course meeting rolls along with another 10-race card Sunday to cap Week 3.

The handicappers took their lumps Saturday – the best any of them did was pick two winners – but as always they’re back to take swings Sunday.

The $100,000 Birdstone Stakes at 1 3/4 miles tops Sunday’s card and it features a field of seven expected to reduce by at least one with Highland Sky expected to scratch having finished second via DQ in Saturday’s Grade 2 Bowling Green on the grass. The longest race run on the flat at Saratoga, the Birdsone seems to always carry a bit of the unpredictable and you might see a blanket finish or a field strung out from the wire to the quarter pole.

Todd Pletcher owns four wins in the Birdstone and takes aim at the 2020 edition with 8-5 favorite Moretti, second last time out in the Grade 2 Suburban, and 12-1 longshot You’re To Blame.

The handicappers look to finish Week 3 strong and the race for the top two spots among our team from The Saratoga Special remains tight. John Shapazian holds a two-win lead over Tom Law entering Saturday’s card after only coming up with a single win Saturday – Cross Border via DQ in the Bowling Green. Shapazian’s record sits at 46-for-124 (37.1 percent).

Tom Law continues to chug along in second and after two wins Saturday brings a mark of 44-for-124 (35.5 percent) into Sunday. Charles Bedard is right there, after also picking two wins Saturday, with a record of 41-for-124 (33.1 percent). Rob Whitlock continues his quest for longshots and sits third at 33-for-124 (26.6 percent).
