The 2019 Saratoga Race Course meetings cruised past the midpoint last week and a significant stretch starts Wednesday with the Alabama Stakes on tap for the weekend and the Travers Stakes not far beyond.

Week 6 of the meet kicks off with a 10-race card topped by the $100,000 Bolton Landing for 2-year-old fillies going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The Bolton Landing goes as the seventh race on the card with a 4:02 p.m. EDT post.

Kimari figures to be the heavy favorite for the feature off a 15-length maiden victory at Keeneland and a runner-up finish in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot for Wesley Ward. John Velazquez takes the return call on the daughter of Munnings listed as the 3-5 morning-ling favorite.

Wednesday’s card opens with a 2 1/16-mile steeplechase allowance that goes at 12:50 p.m. Jack Fisher, far ahead of the National Steeplechase Association trainer standings in 2019, sends out a strong uncoupled entry of Snap Decision and Whitman’s Poetry.

The handicappers return to their usual online space here Wednesday after a rare appearance in the print edition of The Saratoga Special Aug. 7-8.

Surprise, surprise; John Shapazian continues to hold down the top spot in The Special’s handicapping race with 71 winners from 234 races run thus far at the meet. He sports a 30.3 percent strike rate and racked up 19 winners last week.

Tom Law continues in second with 61 winners from 234 races (26.1 percent). Charles Bedard and Rob Whitlock are battling for the third spot with 51 winners (21.8 percent).
