Very few horsemen started the year on the type of run that Joe Parker was on through the first few months of 2017. Parker’s successful first quarter didn’t go unnoticed and our story about him comes in as the eighth most read piece of 2017.

Parker won 10 races through the end of February to reach a career-high; a long way to come for the once aspiring professional soccer player from Trinidad and Tobago.

“Tell Chad Brown I’m coming for him,” Parker joked to Joe Clancy in our story “Parker barn rolls to quick start in 2017.”

All kidding aside, the piece reviewed Parker’s successful run at Aqueduct and included his background as a footballer and neophyte racetracker working for Dick Dutrow.

“I learned from some good people,” Parker said. “They taught me a lot of good stuff. Bruce Levine is top class, and the Dutrows were very good to me. Mr. Dutrow was a great man. I painted his house, and he put me to sit down with his whole family to have dinner. He showed me much love, treated me like a son.”

The story ran March 2 and is No. 8 on the TIHR Top 10 for 2017. Read the whole story and Nos. 9 and 10 below.
