Field set for Preakness 2018

Kentucky Derby winner Justify drew post 7 – the same draw the unbeaten son of Scat Daddy started from in Louisville – and will face seven opponents in Saturday’s $1.5 million Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course.

Justify, the winner of his four starts by a combined 21 1/2 lengths, was pegged by Maryland Jockey Club oddsmaker Keith Feustle as the prohibitive 1-2 favorite. Mike Smith will ride Justify for six-time Preakness-winning trainer Bob Baffert.

The Preakness will feature the 1-2 finishers from to weeks ago in the Kentucky in Justify and 2017 champion 2-year-old male and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Good Magic. The winner of the Blue Grass Stakes in his start prior to the Derby, Good Magic is the 3-1 second choice on the line for jockey Javier Castellano and trainer Chad Brown.

The remaining six members of the field for the 1 3/16-mile Preakness are double-digit odds, with Tampa Bay Derby winer Quip breaking from post 1 at 12-1 and Louisiana Derby runner-up and Kentucky Derby eighth Lone Sailor from post 2 at 15-1.

The Preakness goes as the 13th race on the 14-race card Saturday at Pimlico with a post time of 6:48 p.m. EDT. The Preakness will be broadcast live on NBC starting at 5 p.m. Here’s the field, with jockeys and morning-line odds:

  2. Lone Sailor, Irad Ortiz Jr., 15-1.
