Undefeated champion Essential Quality drew post 14 and was pegged as the 2-1 favorite for Saturday’s 147th Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve during Tuesday morning post-position draw at Churchill Downs.

Essential Quality, a homebred for the Maktoum family’s Godolphin operation trained by Brad Cox, will attempt to become the first champion 2-year-old male to win the Kentucky Derby since Nyquist in 2016. The Tapit colt is 5-for-5 heading into the Derby, including wins this season in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park and Grade 2 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland Race Course.

The $3 million Derby goes as the 12th race on Saturday’s 14-race card at Churchill with post time of 6:57 p.m. The race will be broadcast live by NBC during coverage from 2:30 to 7:30. Horse Racing Radio Network will also carry the race live from 5-7:30 p.m.

The second choice on oddsmaker Mike Battaglia’s morning line is fellow unbeaten and Runhappy Santa Anita Derby winner Rock Your World at 5-1. Trained by John Sadler and owned by Hronis Racing and Talla Racing, the son of Candy Ride made his main track debut in the Santa Anita Derby after starting his career with back-to-back wins on the grass. Rock Your World drew one stall to the outside of Essential Quality in post 15 with Joel Rosario named to ride.

St. Elias Stable homebred Florida Derby winner Known Agenda drew the rail and was pegged as the 6-1 third choice with Irad Ortiz Jr. Known Agenda is one of four Derby runners for trainer Todd Pletcher, who also entered Wood Memorial 1-2 Bourbonic and Dynamic One and Sainthood.
