Just like the parrot who repeats everyday sayings from the barn in his cage that hangs about 10 yards from her stall, Mitch Friedman hopes Carameaway repeats her performance from a year ago in Monday’s $100,000 Saratoga Dew Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
Carameaway won last year’s Saratoga Dew by 3 ½ lengths over stablemate Dreaming Of Cara, the first of three wins on the year for the now 5-year-old daughter of Lawyer Ron. She duplicated her Saratoga Dew win about a month later downstate at Belmont with a front-running win going 1 mile in allowance company in 1:34.08, then finished third in the Empire Distaff on the Empire Showcase card.
Richard Greeley’s mare runs well at Belmont, but Friedman said she really likes Saratoga. Not unlike Prince the parrot, who was chatting away with anyone that stops by Friedman’s barn on the middle of the turn on the Oklahoma Training Track.
“She likes it up here you know?” Friedman said. “She’s comfortable, look at her there in the first stall. Nothing seems to bother her here.”
