You might come to thisishorseracing.com for steeplechase news or to find the latest edition of The Saratoga Special – or hopefully to sign up for The Saratoga Special Readers Club, buy a calendar or look into advertising – but much of our work for the last several years centers on the monthly print magazine Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred.
Published by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association since the 1930s – first as The Maryland Horse and later as Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred – the magazine covers the region’s Thoroughbred industry. Mares, foals, stallions, racehorses, retirees, breeders, owners, trainers, leaders and so on appear in the pages of MAT. It’s not news, we’ll assume you get your news somewhere other than a monthly magazine, but it is stories. We like to think we find stories behind the news and provide a source of insight, entertainment and a little something different.
So check it out every month at the magazine website.
We just finished the July edition and it’s at the printer. Highlights include coverage of the Preakness Stakes and its accompanying big stakes cards. Look for that edition on or about July 1.
The June edition covered Maryland’s big timber races – with Vintage Vinnie on the cover – plus took a look at some of the area’s deep connections to sporting art and checked in with Maryland-bred sprint star Laki at his home in Connecticut (yes Connecticut).
