ST Publishing Inc.’s brother duo of Joe and Sean Clancy earned Eclipse Award honorable mention recognition for their coverage of major racing events in 2025.
Both honors came in the News/Enterprise Writing Award category. Joe earned his recognition for his story titled “Journalism Writes a Masterpiece in Preakness Thriller” about the Preakness Stakes that appeared in the July 2025 edition of Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred. Sean earned his recognition for his story titled “Summer Reading” about the Travers Stakes that appeared in the August 27, 2025 edition of The Saratoga Special.
The Clancys are co-founders, co-owners and co-editors of the Maryland-based ST Publishing Inc., which owns and produces The Saratoga Special and Thisishorseracing.com and produces editorial for magazines Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred and The Horsemen’s Journal.
Joe Clancy added his 2025 honorable mention to his Eclipse Award in the same category in 2014 for his piece “Horse of a Lifetime” on California Chrome’s victory in the Preakness Stakes that also appeared in Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred. Joe serves as editor of Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred.
Sean Clancy picked up his third honorable mention for writing and added the latest honor to his three Eclipse Awards for writing. Sean won the last two Eclipse Awards in the news/enterprise category for pieces that appeared in The Saratoga Special after taking home his first in 2009.
Natalie Voss, former editor-in-chief at Paulick Report, won the Eclipse Award for news/enterprise for her four-part series “Doom Scroll: Thoroughbreds, Bail Pens, And Horse Traders,” published in December 2024. Voss’ package provided an analysis on the methods, reactions and ramifications of bail pens, a new and growing economy in which horses, including many Thoroughbreds, are offered for sale to the public under the threat that they will be exported and rendered for meat if a steep “bail price” isn’t paid.
Judges in the news/enterprise category were Dan Liebman, former editor of BloodHorse and The State-Journal in Frankfort, Ky.; Jim Mulvihill, director of marketing communications for Denver-based Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, former editor and NTRA communications director; and David Papadopoulos, managing editor, Bloomberg News.
